Not being afraid to experiment. Lots of opportunities to be creative. Interesting new patient, friendly, inclusive instruction and knowledge about plants.

I was amazed that I, who considers myself as a "non-artist", could create prints to be proud of. The different details of birch leaves partially eaten by sawflies, ferns and alder leaves worked particularly well. And very worthwhile to see the favourite prints others had created. All different, all impressive.

You planned a great event and I found it so enriching to do the printing with the leaves and grass, it was truly good for the soul

form. workshop combining bush walking + gelli plate printing
to learn about, celebrate and help restore our natural environment.

This all day ecoart workshop was delivered as part of EcoFest West 2023 and received generous funding from Lopdell Trust. It included a bush walk and printing workshop with a local ecological expert to learn about forest restoration in the Waitakere region of Auckland. The workshop focus was to appreciate and better understand the form and expression of plants in the natural location and how restoration practices support the natural environment to continue to enrich our lives.
Nature Printing is an ancient art form that takes objects in nature, and through several stages, transfers the beauty of those objects into art. We used this nature printing workshop to learn more about local plants and gather some examples to make creative works onto different papers using the Gelli Plate method. A fun and inspiring element of this workshop was the collaboration stage where we all worked together to produce a big print. (Scroll down to video).
